TARGIT and Aalborg University Initiate Research Work

November 28, 2007

One of the world's most frequently quoted database research teams from Aalborg University has initiated research work with TARGIT. In the next 3 years, the research will set a new standard for the application of business intelligence (BI). This means remarkably easier access to decision supporting company data for TARGIT's 155.000 users worldwide.

Hjørring, November 28th, 2007 - TARGIT and researchers from Aalborg University's Data Intensive Systems Center have recently started 3 year cooperation which will improve the quality of decisions made on basis of data in the BI solution, TARGIT BI Suite. The ambition is to develop a method to form a faster and more precise overview of any situation and hereby become even better at making decisions and react dynamically in the world that surrounds the company.

TARGIT BI Suite is already one of the BI tools on the market which requires fewest mouse clicks to analyze even large amounts of data, and the research team from Aalborg University is going to contribute with still more knowledge about the "engine" that finds the correct answers in the data. Associate Professor and PhD, Torben Bach Pedersen, is the head of the research team who are all experts in the involvement of other types of complex and web based data for BI purposes, and it reveals new possibilities as to which kinds of data you can base your decisions upon as a manager.

"TARGIT is facing a large pioneer work making for instance bad publicity for a company or critique on a blog in a remote corner of the world into a part of the foundation for decisions in TARGIT BI Suite. For several years, Aalborg University has been one of the leading institutions when it comes to database technology and that is why we hope to be able to contribute with specific knowledge of how TARGIT can optimize the classical outlines of IT supported management. This discipline is about being able to register how even the smallest impacts can affect a company's operation, and this will be a key factor in the next generation of BI tools", says Torben Bach Pedersen, Associate Professor and PhD at Aalborg University, Data Intensive Systems Center (also referred to as DAISY).

"The faster you, as a manager, can set in with a correct and in-depth analysis as well as a decision based upon this analysis, the greater are the chances that the company is capable of reacting dynamically on a critical influence of the company's operation. In a world as complex and global as the world we live in, a build-in radar in the BI tools is required, and this is what we have initiated a whole new standard of with Aalborg University. The research team is internationally recognized and we expect a lot from the research in the years to come", says Dr. Morten Middelfart, CTO of TARGIT, who as a part of the cooperation is going to finish a PhD in Computer Science in addition to the PhD he already has in Computer Aided Leadership and Management (CALM).

DAISY's research in database technology, BI included, is by an international panel consisting of among others the CEO of the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF), Thomas Sinkjær, recognized as being internationally leading and among the most frequently quoted. Dr. Morten Middelfart from TARGIT has recently returned from Portugal where he presented the first results of the research work at the "ACM International Workshop on Data Warehousing and OLAP" conference which is regarded as one of the most important scientific conferences about BI.
