With a manifold media palette, having the right information is a must

NORDJYSKE Medier is the company behind the media activities in the Northern part of Denmark. The company runs a daily newspaper, 20 weekly local newspapers, two free newspapers, two radio channels, a television news channel, a telephone directory, an Internet portal and other net activities.

NORDJYSKE Medier operates in a turbulent market where media companies are constantly fighting for the attention of viewers, readers and listeners. The company’s media palette embraces radio, TV, web and printed media, and to retain the media consumers, it is important that both management and employees have a true and fair view of the company’s status at all times so objectives and efforts can be continuously adjusted. However, a few years ago, NORDJYSKE Medier did not have a tool that provided the needed overview of the business…

Large and complex data amount

When Kirsa Christoffersen began working as Controller at NORDJYSKE Medier, she experienced that reporting - and with that knowledge sharing - was very inflexible and troublesome. To make up for the limited reporting capabilities in the booking system, MPress, they tried to adjust and sort data in various spreadsheets, but they quickly found that the amount of data was too large and complex. Therefore, Kirsa became responsible for choosing a solution that could provide managers with insight and that allowed for easy sharing and distribution of knowledge within the organization. Kirsa explains: “Our challenge was to create easy access to data for all of our sales people. At the same time, we needed to be sure that the data we reported were in fact correct.”

After a demonstration of several solutions, TARGIT BI Suite was chosen to handle the task: “TARGIT was the easiest system to operate, both for developers and users. It met our needs without being too complicated to use.”

TARGIT helps increase sales

Employees at NORDJYSKE Medier can now see and analyze data from spreadsheets and from the booking system MPress. TARGIT BI Suite is among other things used for monthly reporting, business analyses and benchmarking, and today NORDJYSKE Medier is experiencing that all sales people as well as the managers have access to the necessary information at all times. “TARGIT provides far better transparency of the sales department’s data than ever before. The individual employee now has a much better overview of his or her customer portfolio both with regard to revenue, activities and many other key figures at the customer level. At the same time, management now has a tool for coaching the employees that is used actively in connection with personal performance and goal interviews”, explains Kirsa.

The improved overview provides visible results: “In the period from 2004 to 2007 where we have used TARGIT, turnover has increased by 25%. And during that same period, we have improved both customer and employee satisfaction.”     

Extending the success

TARGIT BI Suite has proved to be such a great success at NORDJYSKE Medier that NORDJYSKE Distribution is now building a solution that analyzes distribution and subscriptions. “Our project in sales has been a success, and that has paved the way for other projects", concludes Kirsa Christoffersen, today Head of Administration and Projects.
