The National IT and Telecom Agency plays a central role in Denmark’s information economy. Charged with developing and implementing government policy initiatives for telecommunications and IT, the Agency works closely with ministries, legislators and industry in a complex political and business environment. Yvonne Henriksen, Financial Manager, is responsible for keeping the Agency on budget.
When you make IT policy, you need the right information
The National IT and Telecom Agency oversees the fastest-changing sectors in the Danish economy. With 12 divisions, 250 employees and dozens of high-profile projects, the pressure on executives for efficient project management is intense.
Public scrutiny – and demands on Agency accountability – are constant. So the Agency needs quick, correct handling of cases that are highly diverse and often quite complex.
To meet its goals, the Agency’s must rapidly transform available information into usable knowledge. Timely reports and analyses of critical financial and project indicators figure centrally in the Agency’s drive for efficiency. While the Agency had relied on Navision Stat since 2002, it found that the application’s reporting tool – based on Crystal Reports – was simply not up to the job.
TARGIT wins on simplicity and individual customization
The Agency first heard about TARGIT Business Intelligence Suite at a seminar. Intrigued, the Agency decided to test a demo version and soon became convinced that TARGIT´s BI tools could help improve efficiency - simply and flexibly.
According to Yvonne Henriksen, Financial Manager for the National IT and Telecom Agency, “TARGIT is simple to use - and easy to roll out to users. Preparing analyses in Crystal Reports is far more complicated and time-consuming than in TARGIT. With TARGIT, office managers can use tools like color-coded graphics to spot deviations between budgeted and actual performance. Our staff has been quite enthusiastic about using TARGIT – especially the analysis section, since it quickly provides in-depth analysis of a given area. And it’s so easy to customize, that we can quickly prepare tailor-made analyses for individual staff. This gives us excellent opportunities for ongoing reporting and analysis in connection with projects and their economy.”
14 days from contract to report
Results with TARGIT came quickly. Managers were able to read the Agency’s first report in TARGIT just 14 days after the development contract was signed.
Yvonne Henriksen continues, “TARGIT’s most important qualities are a quick and solid analytical overview and rapid deployment throughout the organization. Where traditional reporting systems do allow customization, making tailor-made reports is often time consuming, expensive and difficult. Not so with TARGIT. Now we are able to provide individuals with the reports they need – when they need them. With TARGIT, you can even customize distribution lists, so that individuals receive only the reports that are relevant to their needs.”
