Nordisk Film is a Scandinavian powerhouse in a broad range of electronic entertainment segments. In addition to the development and production of award-winning feature films, the company owns and operates cinemas and is a key player in the distribution of films, DVDs and computer games, with Nordic rights for Sony PlayStation products. Employing 1,200 in the four Nordic countries, Nordisk Film is part of Egmont, one of Scandinavia’s leading media groups. 2005 revenues were EUR 358 million.
A Scandinavian leader in electronic entertainment
With over 15,000 company-owned cinema seats, and film distribution throughout Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, keeping a close eye on film sales is a must for Nordisk Film. Both at the cinema and at the DVD/video rental outlet, close monitoring of sales – and quick reaction – can mean the difference between financial success and disaster. Also for the studios that spend millions developing and marketing a film.
Nordisk Film’s controllers used to combine figures from a large number of different sources in a series of Excel spreadsheets. The process was labour intensive, and results were slow. Managers were faced with both increasing amounts of data and pressure to make quality decisions, fast.
TARGIT chosen in connection with system update
So the search began for software that could aid in the process. According to Michael Junker, General Manager in Nordisk Film Distribution, “We were introduced to TARGIT when we moved to a new central finance system. TARGIT compliments Navision nicely, and we liked its user friendliness, reporting speed and capacity to handle great quantities of data.”
Nordisk Film now uses TARGIT Business Intelligence Suite throughout the organization, and is impressed by the difference between the dedicated datamining solution and homemade fixes with Excel. Michael Junker continues, “Our employees don’t waste time trying to find their way round in TARGIT as they used to in Excel. The TARGIT system is simple and easy to use, and gives users the opportunity to design the reports and analyses they need. This means employees can look into figures quickly and easily - and act faster than they used to.”
Sharing information across borders and business units – and with partners
In an international company like Nordisk Film, one advantage of using TARGIT is the power to combine information, automatically, from several IT systems. Reports now contain data from Navision, Excel and other file types. And they can easily be configured by corporate headquarters, national sales companies, individual departments or even single users.
Another advantage – increasingly critical – is the ability to share information with content providers and retail partners. Nordisk Film prepares analyses comparing budgeted and actual performance and makes these available to partners both up and down stream. Already online with selected partners, Nordisk Films expects this TARGIT-based collaboration to grow steadily in the future.
