BARC's 2019 BI Trends Predictions

January 09, 2019

2018 was the year of GDPR, which impacted how businesses around the world handle, store, and delete their data. What’s in store for 2019?

BARC’s BI Trend Monitor 2019 spoke to thousands of BI users, consultants, and vendors to find out. They took a microscope to the main drivers within the BI and data management market, and the results are available on the TARGIT website for free download.

BARC states:
“The market for BI and data management is constantly changing. As an industry analyst, we frequently highlight and predict important topics that have an impact on the agendas of organizations and the people within them. For this study we take a unique approach to identifying trends: we asked close to 2,700 users, consultants, and vendors for their views on the most important BI trends, delivering an up-to-date perspective on the BI market and revealing a comprehensive picture of regional, company, and industry-specific differences.”

BARC researchers broke their findings down into six results categories:
  1. Top trending topics
  2. Best-in-class companies
  3. Vendors vs. users
  4. Industry comparison
  5. Global differences
  6. Europe

This approach gave them a full 360 view of where the market is going from various perspective points. Not surprisingly, the three most important BI trends for 2019 are master data and data quality management, data discovery, and self-service BI.

The heavy importance of data discovery and self-service BI make it obvious that companies put an increasing significance on empowering everyday business users with access to important data and high-level insight. Companies around the world continue to move towards a data-driven culture.

Conversely, IoT analytics took a big hit in importance for 2019. While it is on businesses’ radar, it will likely take some more time for true value of a business’s own IoT data to unfold.

Take a closer look to see how trends are compared by industry, regional, and company-specific variables, and get insights into the latest developments in the BI market in the 2019 Trends Monitor.

Business isn’t ever going to slow. Nor will it become less complicated. Knowing what’s coming in the world of BI and analytics will help you prepare for better decision-making in the future. You’ll be better prepared for the increasing industry digitization and market competition.
