We had some user complain that their selection criteria, in an analysis, changed from one month to another without anything else being done. The dimension is complex with 3 ways to look at the dimension, Code only, Description only, and Code & Description both with and without a hierarchy. By looking at the analysis files it is apparent that Targit uses the sequential Id and in simple dimensions it uses the Code. We currently load the Dimensions from scratch and recalculate the sequential Id each time.

Is there a structure that allows Targit to use the Code all of the time?

Hi John

TARGIT always stores the value of the KeyColumn in dimensions attributes and not the NameColumn.

If you have a KeyColumn with a value that changes every time the data warehouse is reloaded then users will experience that their selections "change". What you should look into is to make the KeyColumn a static value that doesn't change, also called a surrogate key and referred to as a Type 2-dimension.

This however is pure data warehousing and not so much TARGIT, should you need help on the data warehousing side to get this working I recommend that you put a call through to your Customer Success Manager at TARGIT and they can give you further guidance and connect you with our Consulting Services-team.

Best Regards,

Peter

Thanks Peter for your quick response. That was our conclusion too. We are creating an ETL package with a static surrogate key.
