Lets say that i have a dimension Country. It has several values: France, Angola, Egypt.

What if the information is overwhelming, and i want to combine some of those values into a group, like a higher level dimension (continent for example). The database doesn't have a higher level dimension, plus i need a lot more flexibility in creation of those groups. Is it possible to somehow combine some of those values in a parent group, without going into the DB and creating a new parent division manually?

Hi Anton,

I have an excel sheet with all countries in the world devided into different groups (e.g. sales areas). The excel sheet is uploaded to the data source view and then I have a country dimension based on the excel sheet. The solution works fine and I did not have to make any changes in my ERP system.

Only possible issue is when I suddenly get unknown (new) countries.

best regards
Peter

Hi Anton

It is also possible to create hierarchies directly in the TARGIT BI Suite using comparisons.

A general comparison introduction:

In this clip, comparisons are used to group accounts:

Note, that the static nature of comparisons, in some cases, can be a drawback.
