Hi all - looking for some advice on how to deal with a time related issue.

This financial year has been a 53 week year. A decision has been made that for the entirety of next year (but ONLY next year), there should be a one-week offset in this year/last year comparisons. So:

Week 53 2016 compares to Week 1 2016, then:
Week 1 2017 compares to Week 2 2016
Week 2 2017 compares to Week 3 2016

and so on.

Has anyone else out there dealt with a similar situation, and if so how did you address it? Is it easier to tackle at the Targit report level, or at the SSAS cube level?

The only idea i've had so far is to take a copy of the database table that the existing time dimension is built from, update the records for 2016 in it, to shift the week of year etc. along by 1 as required, then build a second time dimension from this source, which could then be used for reporting ONLY for 2017 comparing back to 2016, but this is far from ideal and would need a lot of re-writing of existing reports, and an onus on the end-users to remember to use this "special" time dimension for new reports - potentially they'd have to do two versions of every report.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Hi Jeremy. It is a bit late but better late than never. I suggest to our users to use a comparison with two elements: The first uses dynamic dates "This Week" minus 1 and the other with "This week" minus 53. In this way you always compare against 52 weeks ago regardless of whether it is a 52 or 53 week year. Then we use Dynamic Captions to identify the periods being displayed.

Hope this makes sense
