Is it possible to make the colors in an area chart transparent so you can see both colors overlapping each other?

Yes, but you will need to work with custom colors e.g. for each country. The color editor (in TARGIT 2019) does have a transparency setting, from 0 to 100 percent.
A better case is when you work with color agents on your maps, then you will probably have fewer colors that you need to adjust for transparency.
