Heavy Equipment Equipment Ontario Scales Dealership Operations with TARGIT’s End-to-End BI Platform

About the Company

Equipment Ontario services a total of 16+ counties in Ontario, Canada, with 10 full-service dealerships and service teams based throughout central Ontario. Equipment Ontario is dedicated to being the dealer of choice in new and used farm machinery equipment & attachments, commercial & construction equipment, compact tractors, lawn tractors, lawn mowers, and utility vehicles. In 2026, Equipment Ontario became the Ontario leader for Case and New Holland dual branding strategy in addition to which they carry JCB, Hyundai, Kuhn, Penta, Cub Cadet, Ventrac, Macdon, Doyle, Bush Hog, Schulte, Salford, and many more.

Their Challenges

  • Manual, time-intensive reporting processes
Creating reports required exporting data into Excel, restructuring it, and reconciling inconsistencies across locations.
  • Static, outdated data
Reports generated through legacy tools represented a single moment in time, quickly becoming obsolete.
  • Limited data visibility
Teams tracked top-line metrics like total sales and margins but lacked access to deeper insights such as productivity per employee or customer behavior patterns.
  • Difficulty scaling reporting across locations
As the business grew, aggregating and comparing data across stores became increasingly impractical.

Our Solution

  • Faster report creation
Reports that previously required hours, or even days, can now be built in minutes inside of TARGIT.
  • Dynamic dashboards
Teams can see live dashboards that update automatically based on the latest data from IntelliDealer.
  • Granular, drill-down insights
Equipment Ontario uses TARGIT to analyze performance at the employee, store, or customer level.
  • Cross-location visibility
Leadership can easily compare numbers across multiple branches and understand trends at scale.
“You spend hours in Data Miner trying to get just the raw data out onto a spreadsheet before you can finally start doing something with it. In TARGIT, getting a comparison on something takes minutes.”

Daniel Rehkopf

Director of IT, Equipment Ontario

Equipment Ontario is a multi-location agricultural equipment dealership that has doubled in size in the span of just two years through acquisitions and new store openings. To support this change, business leaders needed a reliable, intuitive way to measure performance across locations, departments, and systems.

By partnering with TARGIT, Equipment Ontario has transformed how it accesses, analyzes, and shares data. They’ve moved from static, time-intensive reporting to dynamic, automated insights based on the data within their Dealer Management System (DMS) and the other tools they rely on to keep their business running – and scaling – smoothly.

The Challenge: Data Locked Away in Business Systems

Equipment Ontario’s DMS, IntelliDealer, captures large volumes of data every day. But retrieving that information directly is difficult and time-consuming.

“IntelliDealer captures a huge amount of data, and it goes into a vault… locked behind so many doors that nobody can get to it,” shares Christine Young, Equipment Ontario’s Accounting Manager.

“Half the time, I was just manipulating our data manually...and even then, I couldn’t really compare across branches until I was done configuring a spreadsheet for each location.” explains David Moore, Chief Finance Officer.

Not only did this manual process require a large amount of time and effort, but it also only offered a relatively narrow view of Equipment Ontario’s performance.

Top-level metrics were there, but it was challenging for David and other leaders to extract more in-depth information about performance trends over time, filtered views for specific teams or employees, or department-level comparative analyses.

The Solution: A Flexible, Self-Service Analytics Platform

Equipment Ontario uses TARGIT’s tailored Business Intelligence Accelerator (BIA) for IntelliDealer to unify data and make it accessible, dynamic, and actionable.

Led by Director of IT Daniel Rehkopf, the group implemented TARGIT to serve as a centralized analytics layer that allows him to quickly create reports, explore trends, and answer questions.

He emphasizes the contrast between analyzing data in TARGIT compared to IntelliDealer’s built-in Data Miner tool:

“You spend hours in Data Miner trying to get just the raw data out onto a spreadsheet before you can finally start doing something with it. In TARGIT, getting a comparison on something takes minutes once you know what you’re looking for.”

The Impact: Deeper Insights and Better Decisions

1. Less Time Spent Building Reports

David notes that several reports used to take him ~6 hours per branch but can now be completed in 90 minutes or less inside TARGIT. The same sentiment is true when it comes to Daniel’s work, which is sometimes completed upon David’s request:

“One day I’m driving home from one of the locations, and I call up Daniel, and I’m like, ‘I don’t understand this. I just want to know something very simple, and nobody can give me the answer.’ I was probably half an hour from home. By the time I got there, Daniel told me to go into TARGIT and run a report, and I saw the information I needed. So in 30 minutes, he built that report.”

2. Next-Level Visibility and Control

With TARGIT, Equipment Ontario can now dig into their data in ways that weren’t feasible before, with automated reports that measure:

  • Parts tickets per employee to evaluate productivity
  • Customer purchasing patterns across multiple locations
  • Technician efficiency and service performance
  • Branch-level customer migration after opening new locations

In one example, leadership analyzed how customers shifted between stores after opening a new branch. David outlines the level of detail surfaced in TARGIT:

“I could see which customers moved to one of our new locations, what percentage of their business they took with them, and how many new customers we were seeing at each store.”

Previously, this process would have taken days to complete in Excel or simply not be done at all.

3. Access to Consistent, Timely Data

Instead of static Excel exports, Equipment Ontario now has live, continuously updated data via interactive dashboards. As Daniel shares, “when we build the reports… it’s a dashboard that’s active all the time. Then users can run it anytime they want.”

For Equipment Ontario, the value of their data comes from making it not just visible, but relevant. So rather than presenting a broad set of metrics, they create dashboards that align with the roles and responsibilities of the employees who have access to them.

This shift enables:

  • Timely operational adjustments
  • Confidence in data accuracy
  • Clear, actionable follow-ups

The ROI: Time Savings and New Opportunities

While full ROI is still developing, Equipment Ontario is already seeing significant value from TARGIT:

  • Considerable time savings in reporting and analysis
  • Improved visibility into performance data
  • New cost-saving opportunities through trend monitoring

In specific, TARGIT will play a key role in aligning teams as the newer store locations fully integrate into the Equipment Ontario ecosystem.

David, Daniel, and Christine outlined several key goals and next steps:

  • Expanding dashboards across all departments
  • Embedding TARGIT into budgeting and performance management
  • Increasing adoption within service and accounting teams
  • Benchmarking performance across locations

“Anyone who’s been shown anything in TARGIT has been pretty wowed by what they can see daily, weekly, and monthly, and that they can go backwards and forwards to discern different things along the way,” Daniel shares.

TARGIT has helped Equipment Ontario move beyond static reporting and adopt a reporting and analytics platform that will grow along with them in the months and years to come.

By transforming how data is accessed and used, the dealer group is now better equipped to manage complexity, improve performance, and grow with confidence.
