Controlled Polymers Extract Value from IFS Data with TARGIT’s BI Accelerator

About the company

Controlled Polymers designs polymer-based compounds and masterbatch solutions across various industries worldwide. The team brings over 30 years of manufacturing experience—from commodity-based technical polymers to extreme high-temperature materials for use in medical devices, food and beverage packaging, heavy machinery, and more. Controlled Polymers continuously develops new client-specific solutions rooted in confidentiality and integrity, and the team believes that each client’s success is integral to the company’s success as a whole.

Their Challenges
  • Controlled Polymers wanted to make their IFS ERP data more accessible.

  • They were also looking to eliminate manual reporting processes for IFS and other data.

  • Finally, Controlled Polymers needed to improve data accessibility across departments.

How we helped
  • Partnered with Curit to deliver our pre-built BI accelerator that integrates with IFS.

  • Provided automated reports and dashboards with recommended KPIs by department.

  • Improved accessibility for non-technical users with easy-to-use data analysis, visualization tools, and KPIs displayed on screens.

TARGIT greatly improved the quality of our data. It's also helped our teams start using this data to inform decisions, implement resources, or refine processes to the benefit of our company and our clients.

Developing Customer-Centric Solutions

Apart from their expertise in complex compound creation, Controlled Polymers' biggest selling point is their top-tier commitment to customer satisfaction. Chief Sales Officer André Rosendahl Hansen explains that the company’s average lead time is significantly shorter than competitors’ and that the brand strives to “never say no to a customer’s request.”

The secret to high customer satisfaction rates lies in Controlled Polymers’ ability to balance exceptional product quality with the flexibility to meet customers exactly where they are. They have no minimum order quantities. Employees are always willing to adjust lead time or accelerate specific projects to align with clients’ deadlines—even if it means modifying their internal production schedule or reallocating resources to time-sensitive requests.

To accommodate each client’s requests, Controlled Polymers needs an accurate, up-to-date view of resource allocation across departments. And while the company’s approach to customer service has always been agile, its business intelligence (BI) and reporting operations were clunky before TARGIT. André recalls that the company used to rely primarily on Excel sheets and Word documents to track and monitor data outside of and between various systems.

Data analysts would manually reconcile data exports from multiple sources to provide leadership teams with an overview of current operations. This time-consuming analysis process significantly hindered productivity and created frustrating blind spots in performance visibility. Excel-based reports and similar resources were often outdated when they reached key decision-makers or made their way over to the appropriate department.

Realizing BI Value From Day One

Controlled Polymers moved to the IFS ERP platform about two years ago and implemented TARGIT’s BI and analytics solution a little over a year later. André sees these recent transitions as milestones in the company’s growth and notes that several teams are still uncovering new business opportunities through the combined power of IFS and TARGIT Decision Suite:

“We are still finding new ways to use TARGIT. Every week or so, we discover new opportunities to leverage it in the sales department and other departments across our company. We still consider ourselves BI beginners, but we see quite a bit of potential here.”

Controlled Polymers uses TARGIT to automatically generate and share daily reports on resource allocation, team utilization, and other KPIs with assigned personnel in several key departments. André notes that TARGIT’s accelerator for IFS makes it easy to modify and personalize how data is shared across the organization, empowering managers to monitor and follow up on metrics related to:

  • delivery performance
  • sales performance
  • purchase performance
  • production performance

TARGIT gives users both high-level overviews and in-depth details from a single, easy-to-use interface that makes finding and analyzing performance quick and easy, even for people without a technical background. The resulting increases in productivity enable Controlled Polymers to improve their operational performance and maintain valuable momentum on client projects.

Gains in productivity and efficiency are important to any organization, but especially Controlled Polymers since they regularly see more orders in their pipeline than their team is able to support. As André describes, “TARGIT helps us monitor team utilization so we can see where we have extra capacity. Then, it allows us to follow the entire project lifecycle to track delivery performance and customer satisfaction rates.”

Connecting the Dots Between IFS and TARGIT

When Controlled Polymers began their search for a BI and analytics solution, they focused on finding a platform that complemented their new IFS ERP system without the need for significant technical setup or complicated manual integration.

The company worked with IFS consultant company Curit to find a BI solution that matched their complex IFS data needs and would add value to other areas of their business as well. Brian Sandfeld, Consultant at Curit says: “With TARGIT, we can offer our customers a high-value BI solution that leverages the power of TARGIT and IFS together. I know both platforms well, and there is great value in combining the two".

André explains the benefits of their partnership and Curit’s ability to help his teams navigate the two systems seamlessly: “We’ve been very pleased with our consultant at Curit, Brian Sandfeld. He knows our ERP system (IFS), TARGIT, and the link between both tools. Brian makes sure that we have the correct data funneling in and out of TARGIT and IFS and that we understand how the two systems work together.”

Strong partnerships with Curit and TARGIT enabled Controlled Polymers to adopt and implement TARGIT alongside IFS quickly. What’s more, Curit’s expertise in IFS solutions meant that they could help André and his team configure IFS to fit the company’s unique financial needs.

Informing Business Decisions Across Departments

Day to day, Controlled Polymers uses TARGIT at a department level to track specific KPIs. They’ve worked with Curit to set up pre-configured reports for six departments, each with its own unique goals and metrics, so users can quickly and easily pull the latest information or look back at past performance. The sales team also uses TARGIT to analyze historical IFS data to forecast sales numbers for any given month.

Many departments use TARGIT and IFS to track KPIs in real-time rather than making decisions based on insights from the previous month in an outdated Excel spreadsheet. TARGIT’s interactive dashboards allow users to filter data by relevant parameters and specific periods, then use helpful visualizations to make complex data digestible and easy to understand.

TARGIT’s helpful visualization tools extend the value of Controlled Polymers IFS data by allowing users to share progress, performance, or results with employees on the production floor and in the boardroom.

Currently, Controlled Polymers has 15+ employees using TARGIT. André hopes to increase adoption levels as his teams become aware of what TARGIT can do for their respective departments. As he explains, “The more users we can bring on board, the better since people will be tempted to further explore TARGIT’s capabilities for themselves.”

Creating Bonds Built to Last

Controlled Polymers is currently building a new production hall and administration office to support increases in client demand and the array of new projects coming into their sales pipeline. André believes that accurate, comprehensive data is pivotal to its continued success as an organization, especially as they grow:

“As we get bigger, we want to keep using data to plan smarter. We also want to use data as a functional tool to automatically pass along information to the next person in the value chain instead of relying on a manual process.”

In their journey to becoming more data-driven, André and his team recently attended training with the Curit team to explore new ways to use TARGIT and IFS in tandem. They learned how to set up reports and visualizations themselves, expanding their knowledge and capabilities within the two connected systems.

“We have only scratched the surface of what TARGIT can do for us, and I'm sure that it will continue to be a very valuable tool for us in the future, and I know my colleagues agree on that.”
