TARGIT now offers Web-Based Editing functionality, which gives business users greater flexibility and independence in how they interact with data in our web-based Anywhere client. This release introduces the ability for Consumer Plus users to edit crosstabs directly within dashboards, helping them uncover and explore relevant business insights with ease.

Before we dive into the details, here’s a quick overview of why we decided to develop the Web-Based Editing functionality and our new Consumer Plus license:

Providing organizations of all sizes and industries with a ‘Friendly BI Platform’ is a central part of TARGIT’s strategic vision. Since the creation of our business intelligence (BI) solution, we’ve focused on delivering user-friendly features that break down data silos and make business insights accessible to everyone, no matter their background or level of technical expertise.

For many of our customers, empowering business users like sales reps, frontline employees, and operational department heads with actionable, up-to-date information is critical to success.

We strive to put relevant information in front of all types of users and simplify their daily interactions with large, complex data sets through intuitive dashboards and reports. As a growing number of organizational leaders are focusing on improving data literacy at all levels of their operations, we recognize that business users need higher levels of flexibility and autonomy in how they interact with data.

Today’s business users want to customize their dashboards and make minor adjustments to analyses quickly and independently. They need a BI solution that doesn’t require them to send in requests to IT – or dive into complex back-end reporting tools – every time they want to see a new data point or compare two related figures.

To meet this evolving demand, we’re excited to announce the launch of Web-Based Editing functionality, available through TARGIT's Consumer Plus license type. This powerful tool was built to put power in the hands of business users while still protecting data governance and security across the organization.

Web-Based Editing for Business Users

Now, business users can directly edit crosstabs, adjust criteria bar filters, and save personalized dashboard views, all within a secure, well-managed environment.

TARGIT Designers maintain ultimate control behind the scenes by enabling editing and pre-defining exactly which crosstabs users can edit in TARGIT Anywhere, thanks to the Document Properties and Editing Rights tools in Designer mode.

In the Windows Client, Designers can:

  • Pre-configure criteria bar filters in dashboards.
  • Choose specific crosstabs available for user editing.
  • Choose the measures, dimensions, and user dimensions available to Consumer Plus users.

In the Anywhere Client, Designers and Consumer Plus users can:

  • Edit selected crosstabs in dashboards.
  • Add, remove, or adjust criteria filters.
  • Save their modified dashboards using the "Save As" feature.*

This functionality enables business users to conduct self-service data analysis while allowing Designers to specify precisely which data columns and dimensions are available for editing. Its design ensures that governance isn’t compromised and that users in TARGIT Anywhere can only access relevant, context-specific data.

Web-Based Editing is available exclusively through TARGIT's new Consumer Plus license type. If your organization has a Cloud or Subscription contract, you'll automatically gain access to the new Consumer Plus, and your existing Consumer licenses will be upgraded at no cost.

*Consumer Plus users may only save documents in a personal folder, while Designer users also have the option to save documents in a shared folder.

Introducing TARGIT's Consumer Plus License

Specifically designed to give business users added power and autonomy, Consumer Plus allows users to easily modify and personalize their dashboards without needing extensive BI training or assistance from technical experts.

Consumer Plus has been thoughtfully designed for simplicity and ease of use. It’s built specifically for users who aren’t familiar with data modeling, from-scratch analyses, and other tools available to TARGIT Designers.

The interface is highly intuitive and approachable for users with little to no TARGIT training. There are no overwhelming settings — just simple drag-and-drop functionality and straightforward tools that ensure business users quickly feel comfortable and confident.

Customers with subscription or cloud contracts will automatically gain access to Consumer Plus, and their existing Consumer licenses will be upgraded at no cost. Once the licenses are converted, Designers must enable and configure Web-Based Editing rights before the option to edit becomes available to end-users.

Example Use Cases for Web-Based Editing

Inventory Management for Heavy Equipment Dealers

While the applications for Web-Based Editing are endless, it’s especially helpful in distributed organizations wherein non-technical users regularly interact with data and often need to pull in additional figures to answer key business questions or spot trends.

For example, if an Inventory Manager at a heavy equipment dealership wants to see a list of parts by branch rather than a summarized view of all branches, they can add a new crosstab to display that data in just a few clicks. Instead of sending a request and waiting days for a result, end-users can easily add or remove columns in the dashboard and save their new version of that dashboard for future use.

Other Potential Use Cases

  • Automotive Sales: Dealership managers can add new crosstabs to analyze sales performance across different locations or vehicle categories.
  • Retail Sales: Store Managers can analyze specific trends by adding a column for "Seasonal Promotions" to a Product Sales by Category dashboard.
  • Customer Experience: Managers can see how engagement affects retention by adding a column for "Date of Last Outreach" to a Customer Service dashboard.

As we roll out Consumer Plus, we eagerly welcome your feedback. Understanding how you use these features helps us continuously improve, and we encourage you to share your experiences, applications for this feature, and feedback on how it’s enhancing your day-to-day operations.

How to Access Web-Based Editing and the Consumer Plus License

If you currently have a subscription contract with TARGIT, including a Cloud contract, we’ll automatically convert your existing Consumer users to Consumer Plus users as part of this release. This conversion grants your organization access to Web-Based Editing; however, Designers must actively enable and configure editing rights before the option to edit becomes visible to Consumer Plus users.

Customers with maintenance agreements should contact their TARGIT account representative for information on the conversion process and associated costs. It’s important to note that organizations can only access one Consumer license type, which means you must convert all existing Consumer users to Consumer Plus users if you want to access the new license type and associated functionality.
